Due to new technologies present in some devices, it is now possible to acquire images of the heart in a synchronized manner with the electrocardiogram and with the breath, removing the heart movement artifacts and allowing the visualization of the cardiac structures in great anatomical detail.
Among the indications for the exam are the search for viable areas after a heart attack, the assessment of the perfusion of the cardiac muscle during stress (thus enabling the diagnosis of areas of ischemia), the assessment of cardiac function, the investigation of causes of heart failure and the diagnosis of cardiac masses.
